For most of the coffee drinking public, coffee is a thing that is grown in a different country and that gets roasted somewhere closer to home, without much attention given to every step in between. This middle section of international commerce is generally referred to loosely as “logistics”, a sort-of unsexy catchall for the many stops on the supply chain an item must take to get from Point A to Point B. And unless you work in that particular sector of the coffee industry, there’s a good chance you don’t know too, too much about the logistics of coffee or the challenges it faces.
That’s where the latest webinar series from Digital Coffee Future comes in. Titled The Logic of Coffee Logistics, the new three-part online lecture catered to coffee professionals looks to bridge the knowledge gap on all things supply chain logistics in hopes of bringing more understanding and coming up with new solutions to modern problems.
Starting Thursday, May 19th, and then recurring in two-week increments, each installment of the three-part webinar series will last for one hour—a 45-minute panel discussion followed by 15 minutes of audience Q&A. Speakers for the series include Green Coffee Inventory and Logistics Lead at Intelligentsia Don Lawrence, Logistics Supervisor at Olam Specialty Coffee Colleen Walsh, and Aleksandrs Sidorecs of Cognizant, an agricultural technology company. The talks will be moderated by Digital Coffee Future’s founder Elisa Criscione.
Taking place in English but with Spanish translators available, each discussion will build off the previous session, starting with the first talk, and introduction to “the intersection between coffee logistics and digitalization.” From there, the second talk on June 2nd will provide case studies and real-life examples of how digitizing logistics have helped tackle some issues the supply chain is currently facing. And finally, the June 16th session will wrap up the series “with a discussion about the challenges and expectations for the future of coffee logistics.”
And the best part is, the Logic of Coffee Logistics is completely free to attend. While the webinars are sequential and participants would benefit from attending all of them, folks are able to register for each Zoom event individually via the Digital Coffee Future’s website. Each talk will take place at 6:00 pm CEST, 11:00 am US central time.
